Over the years, Tim Curry has owned quite a lot of properties; however, his Los Feliz home in LA is perhaps one of his most iconic and legendary ones. The beloved ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’ actor bought the home back in 1993. Architectural Digest reported that Curry bought the house for USD 650,000 in 1993 just when it was about to be demolished for a new property. In a 1998 feature with the outlet, the actor had laid bare how his home came to be. Curry often reflected on how the people and places around him inspired his taste in many things, which also included his home.When Curry moves to Hollywood for better opportunities, he and his friend, Annie Potts, set out to cruise the market and see what’s available in the real estate market at the time. The two visited a house in Los Feliz that had just come on the market. It was Potts’s favourite; however, it had been painted a bright tomato orange and was about to be demolished.However, Curry fell in love at first sight when he went inside the property, feeling as if he had been transported all the way to Ecuador. He put in his offer right away and was just in luck since the previous owner had backed out of the deal. He shared at the time, “I soon learned that the previous bidder had been told by her psychic that the house was haunted and had just withdrawn from escrow.” The mansion is known as the Seyler House.

He was a well-known name who was responsible for a lot of public buildings in Los Angeles. The design of the home was directly inspired by the Spanish Colonial Revival. As to why the house appealed to Curry so much, the actor shared, “It has none of those elements one sees so often: festivals of wrought iron, little Juliet balconies, and guitars strumming in every corner.”

The entire home is covered in rustic brown-toned walls, along with black-and-white checkered flooring and cosy carpets. The property spans 4,000 square feet, containing 4 bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms. It also features stained-glass windows, vintage tile, and exposed wood-beam ceilings.Curry also drew his inspiration from an Irish estate owned by the Guinness family, where he was invited to stay for a while. While talking about the same, he shared, “It was the most beautiful and comfortable house I’d ever been to. The dining room’s red Chinese silk walls had been blasted by the sun and were covered with faded Hokusai and Hiroshige prints bound the way they used to be in the 19th century, in black passe-partout. We sat at the end of an enormous Regency table and ate potato pie.”

Curry further shared that he loved the maximalist aspect of the home, adding, “There was an extraordinary range of paintings and just the sort of patina—and obsessions—of several centuries of people who’d lived there, with everything having a layer of dog over it. A great jumble it was, all arranged by an eye.”
