Nagpur: Raising concerns over security and cleanliness around the rear side of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, lawyer Rajendra Gundalwar has written to the chief security general manager of the Airports Authority of India (AAI), Nagpur, seeking restrictions on morning and evening walks and dog-walking near the airport’s back gate.The rear gate is located close to Amrai and the Nagpur Flying Club, an area that sees residents visiting for walks and dog-walking. Gundalwar has objected to the regular movement of people in the vicinity and urged the airport authorities to strictly regulate access to the area.In his letter, Gundalwar alleged that some people enter or move around areas close to the airport without proper identification and said such activity could pose security concerns around a sensitive aviation facility.He also raised concerns over people bringing dogs into the area, claiming that the presence of animals near the airport could create additional risks. He urged the authorities to prevent unauthorised entry and introduce stricter monitoring of people accessing the area.Gundalwar further highlighted issues related to littering, food waste, and other forms of garbage allegedly left behind by visitors. According to him, such activities affect the cleanliness of the surroundings and attract stray animals.The letter called upon the AAI and airport security authorities to strengthen surveillance around the rear gate and ensure that only authorised persons are permitted in restricted or sensitive areas. Gundalwar also sought appropriate barricading and monitoring to prevent unauthorised movement.He said the airport handles domestic and international flights and is an important piece of critical infrastructure, making security around its premises a priority. Any unauthorised activity or unrestricted movement close to operational areas, he argued, should therefore be examined seriously by the authorities.Gundalwar has also urged the administration to take action against violations of airport security protocols and maintain proper cleanliness around the area.A senior official from the AAI told TOI, “Both the Flying Club and Amrai fall under MADC’s jurisdiction, so to implement any security mesaures, their intervention is necessary.”
