Ranchi: Five modern traffic posts with dedicated facilities for women personnel are set to be handed over to traffic police within a week, offering relief to constables deployed for long hours at busy city intersections.The five units are part of 25 state-of-the-art traffic posts being developed across the city through corporate social responsibility initiatives supported by IOCL, CCL, NTPC and NGOs. Three posts are already operational, while the five new ones are ready at locations including Birsa Chowk, Xavier More and Jail More.Unlike temporary tents and makeshift arrangements at several junctions, the new posts have been designed to provide traffic personnel with basic amenities during extended shifts.“The facilities include separate toilets for women, drinking water, spaces for eating and resting, and protection from harsh weather. A dedicated area for small children has also been incorporated, keeping in mind women personnel who may need to bring their young children while on duty,” SP (traffic) Rakesh Singh said.At Jail More, where work on the post is nearing completion, traffic constable Dipika said sanitation facilities would be particularly helpful. “During a long shift, finding a proper washroom is one of the biggest difficulties for women personnel. A separate toilet at the duty point will make things much more convenient,” she said.Phulo, another woman constable posted near Lok Bhavan, currently operates from a temporary tent. “We have to stand under the tent for several hours. A proper place to sit, eat and take a short break will make a long shift more manageable,” she said.Singh said Ranchi Municipal Corporation was providing no-objection certificates for the sites and land allotment for the remaining posts had been completed.The city got its first modern traffic post at Sujata Chowk in Dec 2025, following which 24 more were taken up.Once the five posts become operational, personnel — particularly women deployed on extended road shifts — will have access to facilities addressing basic sanitation, rest and childcare needs at their duty points.
