New Delhi: Delhi schools have completed the scheduled Nipun Sankalp baseline assessments for students in Classes II to VIII. The exercise is now moving into its final phase as schools assess students who were absent and complete the OMR-related formalities.
Delhi State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) had scheduled the assessment in three subjects — Hindi on Aug 27, English on Aug 29 and mathematics on Aug 31 — to assess foundational literacy and numeracy among students. The programme covers schools under the Directorate of Education, Municipal Corporation of Delhi, New Delhi Municipal Council and Delhi Cantonment Board.
Students who could not appear on the scheduled dates have been given an opportunity to take the assessment by Sept 5, according to SCERT’s directions. Schools have been asked to ensure maximum participation and complete the assessment of eligible absentee students within the extended period.
The OMR procedure differs by class. For Classes II and III, teachers fill the entire OMR sheet, including student details and responses. For Classes IV to VIII, teachers fill in the student details and Part B, while students attempt and fill Part A.
The assessment is being conducted through OMR-based tests. Schools were instructed to maintain a “one desk-one student” arrangement during the tests and verify student records on the Nipun Sankalp online portal.
School heads have been assigned responsibility for ensuring the assessment is conducted properly, deploying trained teachers and checking the OMR sheets before their safe packing and submission. Zonal and other concerned officers have also been directed to monitor the process.
Nipun Sankalp programme is intended to assess foundational literacy and numeracy competencies and provide a baseline of students’ learning levels. The current assessment will therefore give schools and education authorities a structured picture of students’ existing competencies, which can be used to identify areas requiring further academic support.
