Nagpur: No offence has been registered in connection with the ruckus at a hospital in Jafar Nagar as the hospital management and the patient’s relatives have withdrawn their complaints against each other. Police officials confirmed that the matter has been “amicably resolved” and will not lead to any criminal proceedings.The incident, however, reignited concerns within the medical fraternity over violence against healthcare professionals. Videos that circulated on social media showed a heated confrontation and people damaging hospital property following the death of a 36-year-old patient, diagnosed with complete blockage of an artery.Dr Irshad Pathan, a cardiologist who runs the hospital, said he was not present when the incident occurred and questioned the rationale behind targeting him. “The incident took place in my absence. The death of a patient is unfortunate. However, doctors cannot guarantee the survival of every patient. Medical science does not offer a 100% success rate for anyone,” he said.Dr Pathan emphasised that while doctors follow established treatment protocols and do their best to save lives, outcomes are not always within their control. “People need to understand that a tragic outcome may be the result of the disease itself and not necessarily because of a doctor’s actions. With the rise in sudden heart attacks among younger individuals, there are situations where doctors do not get enough time for effective intervention,” he added.Medical professionals have renewed calls for greater public awareness about the limitations of medical treatment and stronger safeguards against violence in healthcare settings. They argue that while accountability is essential, doctors should not be subjected to intimidation or attacks when faced with adverse clinical outcomes.
