Gurgaon: The MCG office received a bomb threat by email on Thursday morning, triggering a massive security scare and the evacuation of all its offices in Sector 34. Police later launched a security sweep, found no suspicious objects and declared the threat to be a hoax.The email was received on MCG’s official email ID around 11.38am. It warned of an IED blast at the compound at 1.11pm. It also threatened Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann and said explosions would take place at a cricket stadium and several police stations in Punjab at any time till Sept 13.The message said the explosions would avenge the farmers who died by suicide and gangsters who were shot in encounters by police. The email said the explosions would be triggered by mobile phones and remote devices.Soon after the threat came to the notice of officials, police teams reached the premises and evacuated the building as a precautionary measure.A bomb disposal squad and a dog squad were deployed at the premises and carried out a detailed search of the premises. Police said no suspicious object had been found during the preliminary checks.An officer said the threat was being taken seriously and security agencies in the locations mentioned in the email had been alerted. Teams were also examining the email to establish its source and determine the credibility of the threat. “Technical details, including the IP address and other information associated with the email, will be examined as part of the probe,” he said.MCG premises remained under security checks as police and other agencies examined the threat message and conducted searches.Police said there was no immediate indication of any explosive device at the MCG office. Further investigation is underway to identify the sender of the email and ascertain whether the threat was genuine or intended to create panic.
