Sasaram: Torrential rain over the past three days has disrupted normal life across Rohtas, with the Sone river rising sharply, strong currents developing in waterfalls in the Kaimur hills and severe waterlogging affecting several parts of Sasaram city.Heavy rainfall has intensified flows at waterfalls including Manjhar Kund, Geeta Ghat, Sipahiya and Kashish. The district administration has advised tourists to avoid the waterfalls, warning that water levels can rise suddenly and visitors could get trapped.The Sone river has also risen rapidly, prompting authorities to issue alerts in Dehri and Nasriganj. All 69 gates of the Sone Barrage at Indrapuri have been opened gradually, with around 5.12 lakh cusecs being discharged. Rain in the hilly areas, Palamu district of Jharkhand and water released from Bansagar have contributed to the rise.Sasaram has also reported severe waterlogging in several wards, with water entering houses and inundating roads, including the Gaurakshani-Sasaram railway station road. Residents said children, elderly people and patients were facing difficulties travelling through the stagnant water.Rohtas DM Deepak Kumar Mishra said, “The administration is closely monitoring the situation and precautionary measures are being strengthened.” He urged residents and tourists to avoid flooded areas, riverbanks and waterfalls until conditions improve.
