Nagpur: Mahindra & Mahindra will set up a dedicated skilling centre in Nagpur to prepare the workforce for its planned 1,500-acre integrated automobile and tractor manufacturing facility, as the company moves towards taking possession of the first approximately 800 acres in Additional Butibori.The centre will train prospective workers in areas including mechanical operations, welding and painting. Mahindra said it would announce details of workforce requirements, job opportunities and the selection process as the project progresses, as per the communication issued by the company.Announced earlier this year, the greenfield facility is planned as Mahindra’s largest integrated manufacturing plant in India. Once fully operational, it is expected to have annual capacity exceeding five lakh vehicles and one lakh tractors. A 150-acre supplier park is also planned in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar to supply components to the Nagpur facility and Mahindra’s existing plants in Chakan and Nashik.The company said workforce development would proceed alongside the development of the plant, with a focus on building technical capabilities for manufacturing automobiles and tractors across multiple powertrains and future technologies.The automobile giant also plans to tap experienced employees from its existing manufacturing operations. Over the next two to three years, they will have an opportunity to participate in a selection process for roles at the Nagpur facility.The selection will assess technical capability, demonstrated workplace behaviour, alignment with Mahindra’s values and the ability to collaborate effectively.The project is expected to add a major manufacturing and employment base to Vidarbha, with a proposed combined annual capacity of more than six lakh vehicles and tractors. The supplier park in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar is also expected to broaden Mahindra’s component ecosystem, serving its Nagpur, Chakan and Nashik operations.
