Varanasi: A 16-year-old schoolgirl died after being hit by a dumper truck in Saraiya Vishunpura under Chaubepur police station of Varanasi on Tuesday morning.The deceased was identified as Roshni, a resident of Barthara Kala (Tadiya) village. She was a Class 9 student at Shri Kachcha Baba Inter College and had left home around 7am for school. Near the house of former village head Pappu Mishra in Bishunpura, Roshni came under the wheels of the dumper and died on the spot.Following the incident, angry villagers stopped the dumper, caught the driver and allegedly assaulted him before handing him over to the police. Later, family, relatives and local residents gathered at the spot and took the body to Jalhupur market and placed it on the Chandra-Balua road near Barthara Kala route, as part of protest. They alleged that no representative from the school had reached the spot after the accident.The protesters subsequently moved with the body to the front of Shri Kachcha Baba Inter College and continued their demonstration, disrupting vehicular movement.Chaubepur police station in-charge Anil Kumar Sharma reached the spot with local police and tried to bring the situation under control. Police officials from Chaubepur and Cholapur also attempted to pacify the protesters, but the villagers remained adamant about meeting the DM.Police said an FIR was being registered in connection with the accident. The dumper and its driver have been taken into custody, and further action is underway.
