Guwahati: Assam has identified seven intervention points along the Jalukbari-Jorabat National Highway to tackle recurring flooding.Housing and urban affairs minister Kaushik Rai reviewed the measures on Tuesday under the Mission Flood-Free Guwahati initiative. The meeting was attended by IIT-Guwahati professors and officials from National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), Kamrup Metropolitan district administration and other departments.“Following a detailed presentation and review, responsibilities were assigned to the concerned departments and agencies for implementing various flood-prevention measures. I directed the departmental officials and all stakeholders to work in coordination and ensure that the identified measures are completed promptly and within the stipulated timeframe,” Rai stated in a social media post.A follow-up review meeting will be held in 15 days.The move comes amid recurring severe waterlogging along highway stretches during heavy rain, disrupting traffic and inconveniencing commuters.
