NEW DELHI: Heavy to very heavy rain is likely in several parts of the country on Wednesday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of extremely heavy rainfall in Chhattisgarh and very heavy rain in parts of east Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and the Northeast.Several states are also likely to experience thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds, with rainfall expected to remain active across north, central, eastern and northeastern India.IMD alert for WednesdayThe IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over several states, including Chhattisgarh, east Madhya Pradesh, east Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and parts of the Northeast.Chhattisgarh is likely to receive isolated extremely heavy rainfall on Wednesday. Very heavy rain is also expected over east Madhya Pradesh, while east Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand may witness heavy to very heavy showers.Delhi-NCR weather tomorrowDelhi, Haryana and Chandigarh are likely to receive scattered rainfall on Wednesday, with thunderstorms and lightning possible in parts of the region.The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall over Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi on September 2, with the possibility of more widespread rain continuing in the following days.Extremely heavy rain likely in ChhattisgarhChhattisgarh is likely to witness isolated extremely heavy rainfall on Wednesday. West Uttar Pradesh may also witness heavy rain.Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and adjoining areas are likely to see rainfall, with thunderstorms and lightning possible in parts of the region.East and Northeast IndiaHeavy rainfall is likely over Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.Bihar and Jharkhand may receive heavy rain on Wednesday, while Odisha is also likely to witness heavy showers. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are expected to receive heavy rainfall.Jharkhand has been placed under an orange warning for isolated thunderstorms and lightning in nine districts on Tuesday, while a yellow alert has been issued for all 24 districts for the next three days.“We have issued an ‘orange’ warning for isolated thunderstorms and lightning in nine districts for Tuesday and a ‘yellow’ alert for all 24 districts for the next three days. The wind speed will be up to 30-40 kmph. Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur in several districts,” said Abhishek Anand, the deputy director of the weather office.In the Northeast, widespread rainfall is likely across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura may see isolated very heavy rainfall on Wednesday. Arunachal Pradesh and Assam-Meghalaya are also likely to receive heavy rain.Thunderstorms and lightning are likely across several parts of the Northeast.Central India forecastChhattisgarh and east Madhya Pradesh are likely to receive widespread rainfall on Wednesday. West Madhya Pradesh may also witness showers.The IMD has warned of extremely heavy rainfall in Chhattisgarh and very heavy rain over east Madhya Pradesh. Telangana may also experience thunderstorms, gusty winds and strong surface winds.IMD’s latest forecast for the next few daysRainfall is expected to remain active across several parts of the country over the next few days.Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to continue over parts of north, central, eastern and northeastern India, while Konkan and Goa and Coastal Karnataka are also expected to remain wet.The IMD has also issued a fishermen warning for parts of the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal, including areas along and off the coasts of Odisha, West Bengal, north Andhra Pradesh, Bangladesh and parts of the Tamil Nadu coast.
