Prayagraj: The gift of free bus travel for women for three days during Raksha Bandhan has set a new record in city. Ravindra Kumar, Regional Officer (Roadways- Prayagraj Region) said that this year, over 3.97 lakh women availed free travel on roadways buses of the Prayagraj region, which is the highest number ever. Last year, over 3.76 lakh women had travelled. In the last five years, the number of women has crossed 10 lakh mark during Raksha Bandhan. In addition to Raksha Bandhan, special incentives offered on major occasions like Diwali and Navratri have multiplied the festive spirit. To provide financial support for the festive celebrations, the government provided free LPG cylinders to beneficiaries of the Ujjwala Yojana (Prime Minister’s Ujjwala Yojana) on Holi and Diwali. In Prayagraj district, over 3.87 lakh women registered under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PM-Ujjwala Yojana) received the benefit of free refill subsidy.In addition, under ‘Mission Shakti,’ strict security arrangements are made around public places and puja pandals during Navratri and Diwali. This has instilled a sense of security among women. .
