Dhubri: The chairperson of Dhubri Municipal Board on Monday urged traders to apply for or renew trade licences online by themselves.The appeal followed the busting of a fake trade licence racket involving a liquor bar.In a letter, chairperson Dr Debamoy Sanyal advised traders facing difficulties to seek help only from trusted Common Service Centres (CSCs) or Suvidha Kendras to obtain or renew licences.He urged business owners to pay the prescribed govt fee through UPI or banking facilities. Before scanning a QR code, traders should verify that the money is being transferred only to an authorised account of the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA), Assam govt, Sanyal said.The statement warned traders against paying fees to unknown persons or private UPI IDs or bank accounts. They were asked to collect and preserve receipts and transaction IDs.Business owners may contact the municipal board office to verify licences.Speaking to TOI, Dhubri Municipal Board tax inspector Saheb Hussain urged traders to remain alert against fraud, incorrect payments and unauthorised collections.“We have also appealed to all concerned to remain vigilant, stating that awareness and caution can help safeguard both their businesses and their hard-earned money,” Hussain added.Asked about the fake licence issued to the bar, Hussain said police were investigating the matter.
