Ranchi: District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) have adopted one village each in seven districts to address residents’ problems and spread awareness about govt schemes, officials said. Remote villages have been selected in Ranchi, Chaibasa, Sahebganj, Deoghar, Dhanbad, Gumma and Lohardaga.DLSA Ranchi secretary Rakesh Roushan said Mahuajari village has been selected in Ranchi district under the initiative and will be developed as a model village.He said DLSA is collecting applications from villagers on issues such as old-age pension, disability certificates, the POCSO Act, awas yojna, animal husbandry sheds, public distribution system cards, labour cards, compensation for victims of human-animal conflict and irrigation facilities.Roushan said 250 applications have been received so far, and a door-to-door drive is underway to identify more beneficiaries and grievances.On Sunday, DLSA conducted an awareness programme on securing justice for victims of human-animal conflict, one of the key schemes being implemented by DLSAs under the direction of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA).Addressing the gathering, deputy chief legal aid defence counsel Rajesh Sinha said human-animal conflicts have increased because of shrinking forests. He said hundreds of people were losing their lives in attacks by elephants, tigers, leopards and other wildlife, and added that NALSA is running a special scheme to facilitate relief and compensation for affected victims.The effort aims to resolve local problems comprehensively while linking villagers with legal aid and welfare benefits.
