Imphal: Two militants were killed and six others injured in two separate incidents of suspected factional clashes between the Jenchui and Kamson factions of the Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) in Manipur’s Noney district over the past 48 hours, security sources said.One cadre of the ZUF-Jenchui faction was killed and six others injured in a gunfight reported around 6am on Saturday between Nungtek Part II and Haochong, about 5km from the Noney district headquarters.The deceased was identified as Jangailung, a self-styled second lieutenant of the outfit from Muktina village. He suffered multiple bullet and splinter injuries.According to sources, cadres suspected to be from the ZUF-Kamson faction ambushed the group. The firing continued for several minutes and involved explosives.The incident occurred a day after another clash between the two factions at Oktan village, in which Dingtiplung Gonmei alias Nguiba Gonmei, a self-styled chief secretary of ZUF-Kamson, was killed.Sources said the ZUF-Kamson faction was organising a football tournament at Puichi to commemorate the 95th death anniversary of Haipou Jadonang. While its cadres were preparing for the event, members of the ZUF-Jenchui faction allegedly arrived and shot Gonmei dead.Five of the six injured cadres were brought to the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal on Saturday. The sixth, whose condition was reported to be serious, was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the city.
