Kanpur: Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Friday accused the BJP-led govt of spreading discrimination and hatred and criticised it over inflation, farmers’ problems, education and alleged bulldozer action. He also alleged that rising cultivation costs were hurting farmers and claimed that govt agreements with big companies could make it difficult for small and poor farmers to protect agriculture.“There is only one crisis in the country, and that is the Bharatiya Janata Party. If BJP goes, all crises will end. Their people are roaming across the entire state with bulldozers; this govt is only working to spread discrimination and hatred,” said Akhilesh, who was in Saifai on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.Akhilesh, who visited Saifai with his family, had rakhis tied by hundreds of women party workers and local women and girls at the party office. SP national principal general secretary Prof Ram Gopal Yadav also participated.He alleged that farmers were not receiving fertiliser or fair prices for their produce despite continuously rising cultivation costs. Producers of maize, potatoes and milk were incurring losses, he said.Yadav claimed that govt agreements with big companies could make it difficult for small and poor farmers to protect agriculture. Although the three farm laws had been repealed, work was continuing in the same direction, he alleged.He also targeted the govt over rising prices of sugar, petrol, diesel and daily-use items, alleging that industrialists were benefiting from inflation. He said rising prices had affected people’s purchasing power and reduced the vibrancy of markets during festivals.Referring to Etawah’s Lion Safari, stadium, aquatic centre, cafe and other development projects, Yadav accused the government of ruining them. He said the swimming pool did not even have water, although many children from Gorakhpur visited it for swimming.Yadav alleged that BJP leaders were responsible for the most land encroachments and questioned why bulldozer action was not taken against alleged illegal constructions linked to ruling-party members.Criticising the condition of primary and secondary education, he said new schools and better infrastructure were needed, but projects already started had been destroyed. He alleged that the BJP govt did not want to promote education because educated people would reason and question it, and said fear of questions weakened democracy and threatened the Constitution.Asked about One Nation One Election, Yadav said those who dug pits for others also fell into them. He claimed people were watching the BJP govt’s functioning and would respond in the coming period.
