Ranchi: The city will soon get a 10-lane smart road corridor, improving connectivity between the growing administrative hub and the Ring Road, officials said.The Rs 177-crore project will connect Vivekananda School More with Ring Road via Nayasarai. The contract has been awarded to West Bengal-based contractor Ramchandra Pal, and survey work has begun. State Highways Authority of Jharkhand (SHAJ) is executing the project under the road construction department.The corridor will start at Vivekananda School More, near the old assembly complex, and pass through Jagannathpur and the areas housing the high court and the new assembly before reaching the Nayasarai railway overbridge (ROB).The 6.089-km stretch up to the Nayasarai ROB will have a six-lane main carriageway, service roads and two-lane paved shoulders on either side, effectively creating a 10-lane corridor. Another 2.12-km stretch from Nayasarai to Ring Road will also be widened to improve traffic movement.The project will include dedicated cycle tracks, footpaths, landscaped green spaces, seating areas and public rest shelters. Solar panels installed above parts of the cycle track will generate power for streetlights along the route.“This will be Jharkhand’s first 10-lane smart road corridor. The project has been awarded and survey work has commenced. It has been planned to strengthen connectivity in the state’s key administrative zone and provide better access to important institutions along the corridor,” department secretary Sunil Kumar said.Officials said the project is scheduled to be completed within two years. Once ready, the corridor is expected to reduce travel time to the assembly, high court, Project Bhawan and other govt offices, while providing smoother access between Ring Road and the rapidly developing Ranchi district.
