Jaipur: The city’s newest entrant, the “Dimagi Naxal” Advocates Group (DNAG), led by former Rajasthan Advocate General Girdhari Singh Bapna, has fired off a pointed appeal to CM Bhajan Lal Sharma: Stop the VIP movement protocols that obstruct traffic and frustrate scores of travellers waiting to get on with business. In a letter written Thursday, the advocates said while they believed the problem isn’t necessarily the CM’s intent, the administration’s full-throttle VIP culture snowballs into hours-long gridlock. “Nowhere in the civilized world is traffic obstructed for the movement of a dignitary,” the lawyers said. The letter said that traffic stoppages, even for 3 to 4 minutes, to allow for the VIP cavalcade to pass, result in a ripple effect that prolongs normal traffic resumption by up to an hour. “Commuters who are held up hurl unprintable abuses on you,” the letter said. The group suggested a more efficient traffic management system, similar to one implemented for the CM in Tamil Nadu. The lawyers said while administration possesses the capacity to implement effective measures, it often fails to act unless it perceives genuine concern from the CM.
