Guwahati: Two unidentified bodies were recovered from the Mathu River during a search for five Army personnel who went missing after flash floods in Arunachal Pradesh’s Dibang Valley.Army and District Disaster Management Authority teams recovered the bodies near Brango village under Mipi Circle on Aug 26 and 27, based on villagers’ information. At least one is suspected to be among soldiers swept away from the Paso Pani Army Base Camp earlier this month.Samples have been collected and will be sent to Central Forensic Science Laboratory, Kolkata, for DNA matching. The bodies are at District Hospital morgue in Anini pending identification and legal formalities. Police are working to identify them and locate their families.“The deceased is suspected to be one of the five Army personnel reported missing during the flash floods at Paso Pani Army Base Camp,” DDMA said. However, it clarified that the body was yet to be identified.“Necessary identification and verification procedures are being undertaken. The identity of the deceased will be confirmed only after completion of the prescribed procedures,” read the statement.“As per Anini police, both deceased are believed to be males, aged approximately 21–30 years. The first person is approximately 5 feet 10 inches in height, while the second is approximately 5 feet 9 inches in height,” the district administration said in a social media post.
