Calangute: Four of the eight clubs in Baga sealed by the Calangute panchayat last week for various violations have received orders for desealing from the directorate of panchayats (DoP).The club operators had approached the directorate challenging the action taken by the panchayat and subsequently obtained desealing orders.Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira confirmed that the panchayat had received four such orders but said he had not yet examined them. The panchayat office remained closed on Wednesday on account of Eid.Following a govt-directed inspection, the panchayat identified 17 clubs for multiple violations and decided to initiate sealing action against them. One of the clubs sealed was Tito’s. Sequeira had earlier said the sealing of the remaining clubs would begin from Thursday.Congress spokesperson Vivek D’Silva alleged that the directorate issued a desealing order within hours of Tito’s being sealed on Aug 21. “The DoP is so efficient, it gives a desealing order on the same day. When it concerns the public, they have to wait for years for an order from the DoP,” he said.“But these outsiders get an order the same day. How did this order come within three hours of the sealing order? This govt clearly supports outsiders and their dubious activities. The sealing was done after the district magistrate, Bardez, appointed a joint inspection committee to submit its report for enforcement. That means govt is undermining its own committee order,” D’Silva said.
