Lucknow: A six-year-old male leopard was rescued after being trapped in a cage installed by the forest department in Guleria Jagatapur village under Motipur range of Katarniaghat Wildlife Division. The cage was set up after repeated livestock attacks and frequent sightings of the animal in areas close to human habitation, officials said. This was the seventh leopard rescue reported in Katarniaghat division over the past 35 days, reflecting continued leopard movement in villages bordering forest tracts. Forest staff had identified the site as vulnerable due to regular leopard activity and placed the trap to prevent further losses and ease public fear. After the animal entered the cage, it was secured and transported to a designated safe house. Veterinarians conducted a preliminary health examination and found the leopard to be active and in good condition.Officials said the animal’s release or relocation would be decided by senior authorities, following National Tiger Conservation Authority guidelines.
