Times News NetworkKanpur: The water level of Ganga rose steadily and swiftly in Shuklaganj and the surrounding villages after over 10 lakh cusecs of water was released from the Ganga Barrage in the last four days.The Ganga’s water level in Shuklaganj reached 12.52 metres, which is 48 centimetres below the warning threshold. The effects of the rising water level began to manifest in Shuklaganj and adjacent villages along the river.Residents in areas of Shuklaganj located near the Ganga faced increasing challenges, with many relying on boats for transportation. Villagers in the Katri region expressed concerns about potential flooding. Additionally, crops suffered damage as water inundated fields.On Monday at 8 am, 3,36,882 cusecs of water was discharged from the Ganga Barrage. Furthermore, 1,22,848 cusecs from Narora and 78,954 cusecs from Haridwar flowed into the Ganga. Due to the ongoing inflow and heightened discharge, the water level is projected to rise further in the upcoming days. The administration estimates that within the next 2-3 days, the Ganga’s water level may approach the warning point.In anticipation of possible flooding, the district administration conducted inspections of vulnerable areas and maintained vigilant oversight of the situation.Given the escalating water level and strong currents, the administration prohibited boat operations in the Ganga. Water police and steamers were deployed, and barricades were established along the ghats. Bathing was also restricted at several ghats.Teams from the administration monitored regions adjacent to the Ganga.
