Gurgaon: GMDA has stepped up its anti-encroachment drive, clearing nearly 16 km of road corridors across the city while launching a dedicated portal on Monday for residents to report illegal structures and obstructions on roads, footpaths, greenbelts, drains and other public spaces.The twin measures — intensified field enforcement and a technology-based complaint mechanism — are aimed at restoring the right of way (ROW), improving pedestrian movement and preventing encroachments from returning after clearance.The operation, led by DTP GMDA RS Batth, is part of a campaign launched on Aug 10, officials said.In Sector 17-18, teams cleared around 2 km of ROW and adjoining public spaces, removing 10 permanent sheds, illegal kiosks and other structures.On Sanath Road, another 2-km stretch was cleared of vending carts occupying the road, freeing up space for traffic.Around 5 km was covered across Sectors 30, 31, 32, 38, 39, 40 and 41, where over 20 illegal kiosks, tin sheds and temporary structures on public land and road corridors were removed. In Sectors 60 to 67, teams covered around 5 km and demolished seven similar permanent structures.Along Sohna Road, nearly 2 km of GMDA area was cleared, with nearly 15 temporary and permanent shops and other structures removed.Teams also cleared building material and other obstructions from footpaths to increase the efficiency of road corridors.Officials said the focus was now on sustained enforcement, with the new portal helping the authority identify fresh encroachments and track action after sites are cleared.The portal allows residents to report encroachments from their phones using geo-tagged and time-stamped photographs of illegal obstructions and structures, following which the system captures the address.Complaints can also be categorised according to the location and nature of the encroachment, allowing teams to get clearer information and not rely solely on groundwork.The authority’s new administrative module for officials allows documentation of the reported encroachments, and the action taken is recorded.GMDA CEO PC Meena said the initiative makes enforcement more responsive, technology-driven and participatory. He directed officials to act promptly on complaints received through the portal and prioritise the locations obstructing ROWs.
