Srinagar, Aug 24: Security forces recovered a cache of arms and ammunition during a joint cordon and search operation in Sopore town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Monday, officials said.
The operation was launched by the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police, along with 52 Rashtriya Rifles and two battalions of the CRPF — 177 and 179 — in the Manzseer area under Police Station Tarzoo, they said.
During the search, the joint team recovered the weapons from an abandoned house, the officials added.
The recovered material was seized following due procedure and a case has been registered in this connection, they said, adding that efforts are on to ascertain the source and ownership of the arms.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sopore, Iftkhar Talib, confirmed the recovery and said further investigation into the matter is underway. (KNS)
