Lucknow: UP Special Task Force on Sunday arrested a candidate for allegedly attempting to cheat in the Combined Subordinate Services (Graduate-Level) Main Examination conducted by UP Subordinate Services Selection Commission, using a SIM-based Bluetooth device.The accused was identified as Brajesh Kumar Yadav, son of Dan Bahadur Yadav, resident of Saray Kevat, Khujhidih in Jaunpur, residing in Sarvodaya Nagar, Prayagraj. He was arrested around 11.15am on Sunday from the exam centre in Dayanand Kanya Inter College in Sector-C, Mahanagar, Lucknow.STF team was carrying out intelligence gathering and surveillance to ensure fair and transparent conduct of the exam when they received inputs that organised gangs and solvers were attempting to facilitate cheating in competitive exams.Acting on specific intelligence, an STF team led by ASP Deepak Kumar Singh reached the exam hall and recovered a Bluetooth device along with a mobile phone, admit card, Aadhaar card, OMR answer sheet and the original question paper from the candidate’s possession.During interrogation, Yadav reportedly told investigators that Prayagraj resident Ramesh Chandra Patel had supplied him with the Bluetooth device and instructed him to use it to receive answers to questions asked in the exam. The device was concealed in his underwear, while Patel had provided him a vest with a specially stitched pocket to conceal it from invigilators.Yadav claimed he paid Rs 10 lakh in advance to Patel for facilitating cheating in the exam.STF initiated investigation to identify Patel and identify other candidates, intermediaries or members of an organised cheating network involved in the racket. Authorities are examining the seized electronic equipment and other evidence to establish the modus operandi.Security agencies have stepped up surveillance against the use of sophisticated electronic devices and network of paper solvers in competitive examinations.
