Kanpur: Thieves broke into the locked house of BJP Backward Class Commission member Ashok Kumar in Sudarshan Housing Society under the Rawatpur police station area and stole cash, jewellery and other valuables worth around Rs 15 lakh. The robbery came to light late Saturday when Kumar returned from Lucknow.Kumar lives in the society with his wife, Asha. His son, Parijat, lives in Gurgaon with his wife and works for a private company. Asha had gone to Gurgaon about a month ago.Kumar said he had gone to Lucknow on the evening of Aug 18 to attend a meeting. When he returned home late Saturday, he found the lock on the main door broken. Inside, he found the household belongings scattered.According to police, the thieves broke open the wooden main door before breaking the locks of almirahs in two rooms. They searched through the belongings of Kumar, his wife, son and daughter-in-law. Police said an initial assessment put the value of the stolen cash, jewellery and other goods at around Rs 15 lakh.Personnel from Dial 112 and the Gurudev Palace outpost reached the house after receiving information. SHO Kamlesh Rai said, “We are identifying suspects on the basis of CCTV footage and information about activities in the area.”
