Koraput: Three college students were arrested and two minors detained on Saturday, within 24 hours of the murder of a 19-year-old college student in Jeypore town police limits of Koraput district. Of the two children in conflict with the law (CCLs), one is a college student and the other recently appeared in the Class X exam.Victim Debasish Kishan Kuldeep, a resident of Kebidi village under Jeypore Sadar police station limits, was a second-year degree student of Borigumma College, while police said the adult accused, Jaga Harijan (20), Dinesh Takiri (20) and Chandra Kanta Harijan (18), are the students of Vikram Dev University.According to the police, a case was registered at Jeypore town police station following a complaint alleging that Kuldeep was wrongfully restrained and stabbed on Friday. A special team was subsequently formed. “Based on the complaint, CCTV camera footage was analysed to establish the identities of the attackers. Acting on reliable information, a raid was conducted near Parabeda in the early hours of Saturday, during which Jaga was apprehended. During interrogation, he confessed to his involvement in the crime and disclosed the names of the other accused,” said Jeypore sub-divisional police officer Archita Mittal.Based on Jaga’s statement, police recovered and seized the alleged weapons used in the crime, including a knife and an iron rod. Police also seized two motorcycles allegedly used by the accused and their mobile phones.Police said the murder was the fallout of a long-standing personal enmity between the victim and one of the CCLs. On Friday, Kuldeep had gone to the college of the CCL, where the two reportedly had a heated exchange of words followed by a physical altercation.“Following the altercation, the CCL called his elder brother Jaga, who in turn called the other accused. They allegedly came with a knife and an iron rod, and waylaid Kuldeep near a motorcycle showroom in the town,” police said. They then allegedly assaulted and stabbed Kuldeep multiple times. He was taken to the district headquarters hospital in Jeypore, where doctors declared him dead.
