Ahmedabad: A special Pocso court here on Thursday sentenced 31-year-old Amit Vanzara to 20 years in jail after convicting him for rape of a 10-year-old girl in June 2024.An FIR was lodged by the girl’s parent with Meghaninagar police, alleging that while the girl was sleeping outside the house, the accused forced himself upon her. Vanzara was charged under IPC and Pocso Act. The prosecution examined 11 witnesses and presented 14 documents to establish Vanzara’s crime.The accused claimed that he was being framed by the girl’s father because he had given him a loan and there was a quarrel between them over recovery of the amount. The court observed that the accused could not furnish evidence to prove his claim.Besides sentencing Vanzara to jail, the court imposed a Rs 55,000 fine on him. The court ordered govt to pay Rs 4.5 lakh in compensation to the survivor.
