Patna: National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested absconding accused Bhairav Tripathi in connection with the recovery of an AK-47 rifle and live ammunition in Muzaffarpur district, officials said on Thursday. Tripathi, son of Jagat Narayan Tripathi and a resident of Sahebganj, was arrested on Wednesday.According to the NIA, Tripathi allegedly conspired with other accused to smuggle sophisticated prohibited-bore weapons and rifles from Nagaland to Bihar. The agency said the conspiracy was aimed at disrupting public peace and safety and posing a threat to national security.The case originated from a Fakuli police station case registered on May 7, 2024, after an AK-47 fitted with a lens and live ammunition was recovered near Murghatiya Bridge. Four accused were initially arrested.The NIA later took over the probe and filed supplementary chargesheets. The first, filed on May 8, 2025, named Vikash Kumar, Satyam Kumar, Devmani Rai and Ahmad Ansari under Section 120B of the IPC and Sections 13 and 18 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.The agency filed a second chargesheet against Manjoor Khan on Feb 20, 2026, followed by a third against Kundan Kumar alias Kundan Bhagat on April 15, 2026, under provisions of the IPC, Arms Act and UA(P) Act.
