TNNLudhiana: A Ludhiana businessman and his family members have allegedly received repeated extortion threats from foreign mobile numbers, with the caller claiming to be gangster Goldy Dhillon and threatening to abduct his children and other family members, if his demand was not met.Taking the matter seriously, the Sadar police have registered a case and launched an investigation.In his complaint, Pradeep Singla, a resident of Dhandra Road, told cops that his family had been receiving repeated calls and voice messages from different foreign numbers.According to the complainant, the caller identified himself as Goldy Dhillon, issued death threats and demanded extortion money from him. The caller also allegedly threatened to kidnap members of his family.Police sources said during the investigation, police were provided with four foreign mobile numbers, including numbers reportedly from the UK and Portugal. They added that police were examining the calls made from these numbers, the voice messages sent to the family and source of the communication.Police sources added that several cases had previously been registered against Goldy Dhillon in Punjab, including cases related to extortion and other criminal offences.Acting on the complaint, Sadar Police station has booked the accused under sections 308 (2) (extortion related), 351 (2) (criminal intimidation), 62 (abetment of an offence related) of the BNS.Police sources said although a case has been registered against Goldy Dhillon on the basis of the complaint, police are also verifying whether the threats were actually issued by him or whether someone else used his name and identity to intimidate the businessman and extort money. They added that the police are conducting a technical analysis of the foreign numbers and examining the call details and voice messages to trace the source of the threats and identify the caller.
