Srinagar, Aug 18: The Urban Local Bodies (ULB) Department Kashmir has been functioning without a regular Director for the past 20 days, causing inconvenience to people and affecting the disposal of important matters at the department level.
The key post of Director fell vacant following the retirement of the incumbent on July 31, 2026. However, no regular appointment has been made so far, leaving the department without a full-time head.
Locals and visitors said the absence of a regular Director has affected the day-to-day functioning of the department, with several files and official matters reportedly awaiting necessary approvals and signatures.
The situation is also causing difficulties for people approaching the department and its subordinate Municipal Committees for various civic and administrative matters, as decisions on important issues are reportedly being delayed.
Officials and people dealing with the department said that the prolonged vacancy of the key post could further affect the implementation of civic works and the resolution of public grievances if the position is not filled at the earliest.
The Urban Local Bodies Department oversees the functioning of Municipal Committees and other urban local bodies across Kashmir, making the post of Director crucial for coordinating their routine functioning and ensuring timely disposal of administrative matters.
People have urged the authorities to appoint a regular Director without further delay so that the department can function smoothly and public grievances and pending official matters are addressed in a timely manner.
