Dimapur: Nagaland’s directorate of school education on Tuesday said all categories of primary and graduate teachers appointed prior to the enactment of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009 (RTE Act, 2009) and having more than five years to retire on superannuation as on Sept 1, 2025, will have to mandatorily qualify the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) on or before Aug 31, 2028.Teachers who fail to qualify the TET within the stipulated period will be compulsorily retired and paid whatever terminal benefits they are entitled to, subject to fulfilling the prescribed qualifying service under the relevant rules, the notification said. It added that if there is any shortfall in qualifying service, the matter may be considered by the competent authority upon a representation from the teacher concerned. The directive will also be applicable to all categories of in-service primary and graduate teachers appointed after the enactment of the RTE Act, 2009. Teachers with less than five years left before superannuation as of September 1, 2025, may continue in service until retirement without qualifying the TET. However, they will not be eligible for promotion unless they pass the test.
