COIMBATORE: Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) sleuths arrested a female bill collector of the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation on Tuesday on charges of accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000 from a man for issuing approvals related to vacant land tax.The arrested bill collector has been identified as Yamuna Devi, 59.A DVAC officer said Prakash of Sundarapuram had recently submitted an application seeking permission to construct a mini theatre on a parcel of rented land.On Aug 6, Prakash approached Yamuna Devi regarding the vacant land tax assessment required for approval. She demanded a bribe of Rs 45,000 to clear the file. On Friday, when Prakash negotiated, she demanded Rs 40,000.Unwilling to pay the bribe, Prakash alerted DVAC officials on Monday, who registered an FIR and set a trap.Following their instructions, Prakash met Yamuna Devi in the Sundarapuram area to hand over chemical-coated currency notes. When she accepted the money, a waiting DVAC team caught her red-handed.
