Gorakhpur: A 28-year-old Gorakhpur woman has registered an FIR against her 32-year-old husband, accusing him of physical assault and attempt to murder during their honeymoon in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in 2023 after she got her period.The woman alleged that her in-laws did not return her dowry articles and that her husband continued to send her threatening messages on WhatsApp, leaving her with no option but to lodge an FIR.Ramgarhtal SHO Shyama Nand Rai said they have registered an FIR against her husband, mother-in-law and sister-in-law and launched an investigation.According to the complaint, the woman, a resident of the Ramgarhtal area, married Delhi resident Nikhil Mishra on May 30, 2023. The wedding was held at a marriage lawn in Patparganj, under the Ghazipur police station limits in Delhi.Before the wedding, the couple’s families attended a pre-wedding rituals in Gorakhpur on April 30, 2023. The woman alleged that during the ceremony, her in-laws insisted that the items given by her family should be branded.She further alleged that her father gave around Rs 20 lakh in cash, a Hyundai Venue car and other articles worth approximately Rs 40 lakh as dowry.The woman said she moved to her marital home in Delhi on June 2, shortly after the wedding. She alleged that her in-laws taunted and humiliated her after seeing the dowry articles, claiming that even the items provided were not sufficiently branded.About a month later, on July 4, she travelled with her husband to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands for their honeymoon.According to her complaint, she experienced severe abdominal pain and heavy bleeding after getting her period during the trip. She alleged that her husband became angry and questioned why she had not informed him about her periods earlier. He allegedly assaulted her with slaps, kicks and punches and attempting to strangle her. She claimed that hotel employees rescued her after hearing her cries.She eventually returned to her in-laws’ home in Delhi and told her mother-in-law about the incident. The woman claimed that she was thrown out of her marital home on July 14, 2023, just 45 days after the wedding.
