Kanpur: The body of a 35-year-old policeman working as a follower was found lying on a bed in his room late Saturday inside the Shivrajpur police station premises in Kanpur Nagar.The deceased has been identified as Ajit, a resident of Kunwar Deypur village of Auraiya district.As per information, he was recruited into the police department in 2017 and was posted at Shivrajpur police station as a follower, a policeman working in the mess.He was later transferred to the Police Line, but he continued residing in the residential room located in the Shivrajpur police station premises.On Saturday evening, policemen grew suspicious after a foul smell emanated from his room. When they looked through the window, Ajit’s body was found lying on the bed.The station in charge and other officers immediately reached the spot, had the room door opened, and took the body into custody.Police said that prima facie, the body was suspected to be three to four days old.Station in charge Amit Singh said the deceased’s family had been informed about the incident. “The cause of the death will be clear only after the postmortem report is received,” he said. Further investigation is underway.
