Dhanbad: The singing of Vande Mataram at both the beginning and end of the local administration’s official Independence Day event in Dhanbad drew widespread appreciation from people across different sections of society, including the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), which called it a significant gesture of respect for the nation.The ceremony began with Vande Mataram, followed by the unfurling of the national flag and the National Anthem. The programme ended once again with Vande Mataram. Many present at the venue said the sequence reflected the patriotic spirit of the freedom movement.Several attendees described the decision as a fitting tribute to the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the country. They said giving prominence to Vande Mataram during the 150th anniversary year of the song was a matter of pride.RSS Dhanbad Nagar Karyawah Rakesh Suman welcomed the govt’s decision, saying the 80th Independence Day was particularly significant. He said the inclusion of Vande Mataram in the national celebration had strengthened the feeling of national pride among citizens.Social and cultural organisations also praised the move, calling it a tribute to the freedom fighters who drew inspiration from Vande Mataram during the freedom struggle.BJP leader Mukesh Pandey said freedom fighters raised slogans of Vande Mataram during the movement against British rule. He alleged that govt had restored its rightful place in national celebrations.The public response showed that the decision generated pride and happiness among those attending the Independence Day programme.
