CHENNAI: Nearly a week after taking over the probe into the murder of BSP leader K Armstrong, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sleuths on Saturday visited the crime scene in Venugopal Street in Perambur, where he was hacked to death, and reconstructed the sequence of events.A team of three officials led by the DIG Raguramarajan visited the spot and recorded how the murder had taken place. Inspector M Chiranjeevi, who was the station house officer when Armstrong was murdered on July 5, 2024, and was the investigation officer, was also present along with CBI officials.The special task branch of CBI, Chennai, had reregistered the original first information report (FIR) recorded by the Sembium police. Police had registered the case based on a complaint filed by Armstrong’s brother Veeramani, who was a witness to the murder in front of an under-construction house of the BSP leader.Though the Madras high court transferred the investigation to CBI in September last year quashing the chargesheet filed by the city police, the then Chennai police commissioner approached the Supreme Court challenging the HC order. However, the petition was later dismissed as withdrawn, and the Supreme court cleared the decks for CBI to take over the probe and start investigation afresh.
