Alwar: Bharatpur Police Friday arrested a man accused of shooting dead a property dealer on Madarpur Road, in front of MSJ College under the Mathura Gate police station area late Thursday night. The accused was later injured in the leg after he allegedly snatched a pistol from an ASI and attempted to fire at police during a weapon-recovery operation.SP Rajesh Meena said police had received information around 8 p.m. Thursday that a person had been shot and injured on Madarpur Road. The injured man was taken to hospital, where he died during treatment. He was identified as Ajay Khemra (40), a resident of Khemra village.Police said nearby CCTV footage helped identify the accused, Kapil Faujdar, a resident of Didwari. Police teams conducted raids through the night and traced him to Mathura in Uttar Pradesh. During questioning, he allegedly told police that the weapon used in the crime had been hidden in a place under Udyog Nagar police station area.A police team Friday took Faujdar to the area to recover the weapon. During the search, he allegedly snatched a pistol from an ASI and attempted to fire at the police team. The ASI fired towards his leg in self-defence, hitting him below the knee, Meena said.Faujdar was subsequently taken to RBM Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment in police custody.According to police, Ajay was shot in front of his house. He and Faujdar allegedly had an old dispute over money. An argument broke out between the two Thursday, following which Faujdar allegedly fired at Ajay.Police said they are questioning Faujdar and investigating if others were involved in the crime. Meena said Ajay’s post-mortem was conducted by a medical board Friday.Following the shooting, Ajay’s family members and associates staged a dharna for around two hours with his body on the road, police said. The body was later taken to the mortuary, and his son Anshul, who arrived around 3 a.m., was shown the body.
