Nagpur: A day after TOI highlighted the battered condition of Nagpur’s marquee double-decker flyovers, MahaMetro resurfaced the Wardha Road flyover, which had become a bumpy ride for commuters.TOI had reported that potholes and rough patches had resurfaced at the approaches and exits of the Wardha Road and Kamptee Road double-decker flyovers. On Wardha Road, the problem was particularly noticeable towards Ajni and Airport Square, where motorists entering or descending from the otherwise smooth elevated corridor encountered damaged stretches.Following the report, a senior MahaMetro official acknowledged the problem and said repairs would be undertaken once the city got a dry spell.The repair is significant as the Wardha Road double-decker has faced recurring maintenance issues. TOI had first highlighted potholes and loose gravel on its Ajni and Airport Square ramps in July 2024. The return of damaged patches this monsoon had again raised concerns over the upkeep of one of the city’s prominent infrastructure projects.Opened in 2020, the flyover combines a Metro viaduct with a road flyover along one of Nagpur’s busiest arterial corridors and remains under MahaMetro’s maintenance.Sources said both the Wardha Road and Kamptee Road double-deckers are eventually to be handed over to NMC. Civic officials, however, are expected to take over the structures only after they are restored to proper condition, including smooth road surfaces and fully functional streetlights.
