Prayagraj: Encouraged by the unprecedented turnout of more than 21 crore devotees at this year’s Magh Mela, Prayagraj Mela Authority has already begun preparations for the 2027 edition of the annual religious gathering at Sangam.The state govt has released the first instalment of Rs 100 crore for the event after Mela Authority sought a total budget of Rs 200 crore. Officials said the remaining amount would be released in phases on the basis of the progress of various projects. Authorities expect the number of visitors to increase by around 15% next year, prompting them to seek a larger allocation from the state govt.Officials said the funds would be used to create temporary roads, install toilets, arrange tents for seers and Kalpvasis, strengthen electricity and drinking water facilities, and expand the network of CCTV cameras in the fair area.The state govt had allocated Rs 120 crore for the 2026 edition of Magh Mela. This time, authorities have sought an additional Rs 80 crore to improve and expand facilities for pilgrims.Officials said the tendering process would begin this month. Since there are no indications of severe flooding in the area, the administration expects the bidding process to be completed in Aug and Sept so that work can begin in Oct. The authorities have set a deadline of Dec 15 to Dec 31 for the completion of all projects.
