Panaji: Chief minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday said that the education department has issued a show-cause notice to Deepvihar higher secondary school, Headland-Sada, Mormugao, over an alleged drowning incident.“The director of education has issued a show cause notice and sought explanation from the school,” Sawant said at the cabinet briefing.Relatives and neighbours of Rahul Bind, who drowned at the Tonir–Kajredhat (Savarde) waterfall in Sattari taluka, have demanded action against the teachers and management of Deepvihar higher secondary school.The group protested outside the school and questioned the management, claiming parents were not informed in advance about the trekking venue. They also alleged the school did not warn parents that the waterfall site has a history of fatal incidents.Valpoi police on Saturday registered a FIR against four teachers and two tour operators following the drowning death of a 17-year-old Class XI student during a school excursion and trekking programme in Sattari.According to authorities, a group of 25 school students had travelled to the area as part of an excursion and trekking programme. They were accompanied by four teachers and two tour operators.Preliminary findings indicate that the group entered a wildlife area without obtaining the required permission and later proceeded towards the waterfall and trekking route, despite the risks posed by the terrain and water body.
