Mangaluru: Uppinangady police have detained five persons for questioning in connection with the alleged assault of a man who was travelling in a car with a minor girl near Kapinabagilu in Kokkada on Aug 11. A counter-complaint has been filed by the girl’s mother, accusing the man of forcibly taking her daughter away in his car.According to a complaint filed by Sheikh Mukhtar,50, he was travelling towards Hassan for work with the minor daughter of an acquaintance on the night of Aug 11. When they reached Kapinabagilu in Kokkada, within Uppinangady police station limits, a group allegedly intercepted the car and questioned him about the girl. Mukhtar alleged that members of the group abused and assaulted him.Based on his complaint, Uppinangady police registered a case under Sections 189(2), 191(2), 126(2), 353(2), 352 and 115(2), read with Section 190 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.Police identified those detained as Dhanush,23, of Kokkada, Dinesh, 45, of Charmadi, Poornaksha B,40, of Puduvattu, Suraj, 25, of Kokkada and Ranjith Bhandari, 29, of Kokkada. They are being questioned as part of the investigation.In a counter-complaint relating to the same incident, the minor girl’s mother alleged that Mukhtar had forced her daughter into his car and taken her away.Based on her complaint, Uppinangady police registered zero FIR under Section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Further investigation into both complaints is under way.
