Thiruvananthapuram: Following complaints about delays in correcting SSLC certificates and issuing duplicates, general education minister N Samsudheen carried out a surprise inspection at Pareeksha Bhavan.The minister directly heard grievances from applicants who were at the office and ordered immediate action.During the visit, he found that there were delays of two to three months in making corrections to SSLC certificates and issuing duplicate copies. Based on this, he instructed officials to urgently implement measures to eliminate the backlog.The staff informed the minister that the delay was caused by duplicate certificates being sent back to schools for corrections and then returned.Samsudheen has ordered a modernisation of the system to prevent such delays. He announced that 60 laptops had been sanctioned for the authority for this purpose.The minister ordered that certificates must be issued within 15 days of receiving applications.He also found that phone calls to the reception were not being answered. Following this, he gave instructions to the secretary of the exam wing to ensure mobile phone facilities for both the reception and superintendents so that applicants can receive information. He also directed that more staff be deployed at the counters to prevent applicants from having to wait in long queues.The minister further directed the joint commissioner of Pareeksha Bhavan to monitor all the issues and submit a report. He also instructed the director of general education to prepare strict guidelines in this regard.
