The Bihar government has approved the extension of the Kushal Yuva scheme for five more years, until 2030-31. The Kushal Yuva scheme will continue from the financial year 2026-27 through 2030-31. The government has allocated ₹430.08 crore for the programme in 2026-27 alone.
While speaking to the media, Additional Chief Secretary (Cabinet) Md Sohail said that the curriculum will be recalibrated to reflect rapid advances in artificial intelligence and digital technologies. Training modules will now cover solar energy, drone technology, networking, home nursing, multi-skilled laboratory technicians, emergency medical technicians, beauty and wellness, web and information technology, digital marketing, banking and financial services, Tally, language skills and entrepreneurship. The network of 6,436 training centres is expected to skill approximately 257,000 youths every year, generating both direct employment at the centres and wider self-employment opportunities as trained candidates launch their own ventures.

About the program
This program is targeted at all aspirants in the age group of 15 to 28 years (Age limit for SC/ST, OBC & People with Disabilities is as follows: SC/ST – 33 years, OBC – 31 years, PwD – 33 years) to enhance the employability of these youth of Bihar.
The program was launched to address the four major challenges in the skill development ecosystem, which include increasing training capacity, expanding access, improving relevance, and enhancing perception.
Eligibility Criteria
All Candidates belonging to the age group of 15-28 years (Age limit for SC/ST, OBC & People with Disabilities is as follows: SC/ST – 33 years, OBC – 31 years, PwD – 33 years), who have minimum qualification as 10th pass; irrespective of the fact that the candidate is pursuing /completed any Higher Education Course/Degree will be eligible to undertake training under “Kushal Yuva Program”. Apart from the above, all youth in the 20-25 age group who have opted for and been sanctioned the self-help allowance must complete this training.
Course Curriculum
The Kushal Yuva Program curriculum includes three components: life skills, communication skills (English and Hindi), and basic computer literacy. The course duration, covering all three components, would be 240 hours (Life Skills for 40 hours, Communication Skills for 80 hours, and the Basic Computer Literacy component for approx. 120 hours).

KYP examination
The Kushal Yuva Program examination is held in the last week of every month. The exam is held in four slots- first slot from 8 am to 10 am, second slot from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm, third slot from 1 pm to 3 pm and fourth slot from 3.30 pm to 5.30 pm.
