Mangaluru: Alumni of National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) Surathkal have funded a new Health Care Centre (HCC) Annex building on campus, with the foundation stone laid on Aug 6 during the institute’s 67th Foundation Day celebrations.Director Prof. B. Ravi laid the foundation stone in the presence of chief guest Prof. Venkappayya, director of IIT Dharwad, deputy director Prof Subash C Yaragal, deans, functionaries, faculty and staff members, and NITK alumni, including members of the 1986 and 1972 batches and other alumni donors.The project has been funded through alumni contributions totalling Rs 1,75,10,554. The 1986 batch was the largest contributor with Rs 1,01,76,002, followed by the 1972 batch with Rs 29,00,001. Additional support came from individual donors and other batch reunions.The HCC Annex will be a ground-plus-one structure spanning approximately 3,100 sqft.The ground floor will house an ECG-nebulization room with three beds, a two-bed casualty ward, a sterilisation room, two resident doctors’ consultation rooms and ambulance parking.The first floor will include a physiotherapy facility with four beds, three specialist doctors’ consultation rooms, separate restrooms for men and women, and a meeting room.
