Chandigarh: The rain on Tuesday broke the intensely humid spell spanning the last few days, bringing much-needed respite to city residents. Despite temperature remaining close to normal, residents had been grappling with discomfort. The impact of the rain was evident across the city as overcast skies and cooler winds made outdoor conditions significantly more comfortable.According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Chandigarh recorded a maximum temperature of 29.4 degrees Celsius, which was four degrees below normal and a minimum temperature of 25.1 degrees Celsius, one degree below normal. The drop in the daytime temperature was particularly noticeable after the rain. The weather department recorded 2.5mm rainfall in the city on Tuesday. With this, Chandigarh’s cumulative rainfall during the ongoing monsoon season has reached 416mm. However, the city continues to face a rainfall deficit, having received 23% less rain than the normal monsoon average so far.Meteorologists said weather conditions remain favourable for further rainfall over the region. Continued cloud cover and intermittent showers are expected to keep temperatures under control and prevent any sharp rise in daytime heat. The weather department has forecast more rain and thundershowers over the coming days. If the forecast holds, Chandigarh is likely to experience relatively cool and pleasant weather, with temperatures remaining below normal or near normal levels.
