MUMBAI: Ride-hailing platform Uber has announced one of its biggest expansions in India, extending its services to 100 additional cities and taking its network to more than 220 cities nationwide.To mark the upcoming Independence Day celebrations, the company is also offering a free first ride for new users for a limited period.The expansion will be powered by Uber Bike, bringing affordable and reliable mobility solutions to smaller towns and emerging urban centres across the country.The move is expected to improve last-mile connectivity while creating flexible earning opportunities for thousands of local drivers.The newly added cities span 18 states and one Union Territory, stretching from Jammu in the north to Tirunelveli in the south, Silchar in the east and Jamnagar in the west.Uber said the initiative reflects its commitment to deepening its presence beyond metropolitan markets and making transportation more accessible to millions of Indians.Rishant Ghosh, Director – Consumer & Growth, Uber India & South Asia, said, “Expanding to 100 new cities marks an important milestone as we take Uber deeper into India and strengthen access to reliable, affordable mobility for millions.”Welcoming the development, Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari said India’s expanding road infrastructure is helping connect smaller cities and unlock new economic opportunities, paving the way for greater mobility and growth.
