Kanpur: An additional sessions court on Tuesday convicted two men and sentenced them to life imprisonment in connection with the murder case of a 17-year-old boy in 2005.The prosecution had charged the accused under Sections 302, 364, 201 and 120B of the IPC, pertaining to murder, kidnapping, destruction of evidence and criminal conspiracy.The presiding judge, Mukesh Singh, punished the convicts, Javed and Sonu alias Sunil Kumar with life imprisonment for their each offence and imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 under each of the four offences taking the total fine on each convict to Rs 1 lakh.The court further directed that the convicts would have to undergo an additional six months’ imprisonment in case of default in payment of the fine.According to assistant district govt counsel Sanjay Jha, the case was registered in 2005 on a complaint lodged by Sabir Ali, a resident of Colonelganj.In the FIR, Ali stated that his 17-year-old son, Amir Ali, had gone missing on Dec 12, 2005. He later learnt that his maternal cousin, Javed, along with his aide Sonu, had come to Kanpur that day and allegedly taken Amir away in a Tata Sumo before murdering him.Ali told police that he had employed Javed in his company but terminated his services in 2005 after his name surfaced in a theft case linked to the firm. He alleged that Javed harboured a grudge against him since then and murdered his son to avenge the perceived humiliation.During the investigation, police seized the Tata Sumo allegedly used in the crime and arrested the accused. Investigators also recovered a wrench and a spanner allegedly used in the murder.Jha said the prosecution examined around 11 witnesses, while the defence produced four witnesses. After hearing both sides, the court held the accused guilty, relying on circumstantial evidence presented by the prosecution.
