Hyderabad: In a drunk driving case, a 47-year-old ex-serviceman died, and two others suffered injuries after a SUV rammed into their vehicles at Hydershakote while trying to overtake an autorickshaw, early on Monday morning. Police said that the accused driver, a food delivery executive, was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash and has been booked for culpable homicide.Three others travelling with him have also been booked for abetting the crime, for allowing the accused to drive despite knowing he was drunk.According to K Venkatesham, sub-inspector, Narsingi, the incident took place around 5.30 am when the deceased, D Ravinder (47), was returning home after his shift as security guard at Tolichowki. “The Mahindra XUV car was travelling from Hydershakote towards Chevella. It hit Ravinder’s scooter coming from the opposite direction and also another bike after crossing SMP School. Ravinder died on the spot due to severe injuries while two people on another bike sustained injuries,” the SI said.Police caught all the accused from the crime scene. They said that the four — main accused Veeresh, his brother-in-law Vikas, car owner Kranti Goud and friend Chandan — were returning to their homes in Sun City after a party at a friend’s house in Hydershakote.“When we put the driver through a breathe analyser test, we found he was drunk. All the four were sent to a govt hospital where their samples were collected for examination,” said Narsingi inspector, D Vishnu Vardhan Reddy. The accused’s blood alcohol content is yet to be confirmed.Serilingampally DCP Ch Srinivas said that Veeresh was booked under Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the BNS and the other three accused have been booked for abetment for letting Veeresh drive despite knowing he was intoxicated. “All the four will be produced before the magistrate for remand,” the DCP said.The XUV is registered in Goud’s name and has three pending traffic challans for speeding and wrong parking issued by RGI Airport, Chatrinaka traffic police and Achampet law and order police.
