Belagavi: A man and his son from Murgod village died after drowning in an agricultural pond in Malagali village of Savadatti taluk on Sunday. The deceased are Basavaraj Kengeri, 40, and Dhareppa Kengeri ,14, both residents of Murgod village in Savadatti taluk. Basavaraj was visiting his wife’s hometown in Malagali village. While drawing water from an agricultural pond to spray pesticides on crops, his son Dhareppa, standing nearby, slipped and fell into the pond. Basavaraj and Dhareppa’s brother, Bagappa, dived into the pond to rescue the boy. Basavaraj and Dhareppa died, while some people in a neighbouring field rescued Bagappa. Bagappa, whose condition is said to be serious, is being treated at Bailhongal govt hospital. Murgod police visited the spot. A case has been registered at Murgod police station.
